Ben Affleck’s hostage drama Argo has climbed to the top of the box office chart in its third week of release.
The thriller chronicles the heroic, real-life story of a CIA rescue mission to free six Americans holed up in Iran and smuggle them out of the country amid the nation’s revolution in 1979.
It debuted in second place with takings of $20.1 million upon its release earlier this month, and after two weeks as the box office runner-up, it’s finally taken hold of number one, grossing $12.4 million.
Animated family film Hotel Transylvania is at two with $9.5 million, edging out Tom Hanks and Halle Berry’s new drama Cloud Atlas, which entered at three with earnings of $9.4 million.
