Organisers of Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel faced a last-minute hitch as they made final preparations for the big show – a sewage pipe burst hours before celebrities were scheduled to hit the red carpet.
Beverly Hills Fire Department officials were called to the scene to attend to the damage, and were faced with having to mop up the mess of flood water on the walkway leading to the venue.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, black sewage and water was sprayed on cameras, Globes staff and members of the media on the red carpet just after noon local time.
TV presenter Ryan Seacrest, who is reporting live from the E! News Red Carpet, took to Twitter.com with a photo of the broken pipe peeping through the red carpet and wrote, “Huge water leak on #goldenglobes red carpet… Bev Hills fire trying to clean up. Could be bad for long gowns.”
