Veteran actress Diahann Carroll was toasted by her peers Angela Bassett and Regina King on Saturday as she was feted for her career success at a special dinner in Los Angeles.
The Dynasty star, 78, was the guest of honor at the House of Flowers event, which was held at TV producer Tracey Edmonds’ home and was aimed at celebrating female empowerment in the African-American community and helping to “open doors for future accomplishments”.
Speaking at the bash, Carroll said, “I really appreciate knowing that you’ve heard my name and remember it. I don’t even know if I would have been allowed to drive down this street back in the ’50s. Being here has given me new passion.”
Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the first black president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was also honored at the dinner, where guests included model Beverly Johnson and actress Anika Noni Rose.
