British actor Gary Oldman skipped the New York premiere of his new film Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes on Tuesday due to a family emergency, according to a report.
The star was due to walk the red carpet alongside his fellow castmates at the screening in the city’s Williamsburg Cinemas but was noticeably absent.
According to New York Post gossip column Page Six, Oldman flew in to New York for the event at the beginning of the week but jetted back out on Tuesday morning due to undisclosed family matters.
The canceled appearance comes weeks after he apologized following a controversial interview with Playboy magazine, in which he claimed Mel Gibson has been unfairly ostracised following his anti-Semitic tirade during his 2006 arrest due to “political correctness”.
A representative for the actor had not responded to a request for comment as WENN went to press.
