Robin Gibb’s longterm friend Leslie Phillips has cut short his holiday to be by the ailing Bee Gees star’s bedside as he fights for his life in hospital.
Gibb developed pneumonia and is in a coma in a U.K. hospital, just weeks after announcing his colon and liver cancer had gone into remission.

His spokesperson confirmed reports of the star’s latest health battle in a post on his website late on Saturday and the site was later suspended.

The post reads, “Sadly the reports are true that Robin has contracted pneumonia and is in a coma. We are all hoping and praying that he will pull through.

“This website is currently receiving an extraordinarily high volume of traffic and is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for any inconvenience.”

And Phillips, who interviewed Gibb for a U.K. TV show last year has flown back to England from Ibiza to support the singer.

He tells Britain’s Sun on Sunday, “It saddens me deeply – poor Robin has taken a serious turn for the worse. I feel very sad if it is true that he has only days to live.”

Gibb’s famous friends have also taken to Twitter.com to send the star their best wishes.

In a post, Jackie Jackson writes, “Sending love and prayers to Robin Gibb (Bee Gees) and his family”, while Boyzone star Ronan Keating adds, “Just heard about Robin Gibb. So sad. My thoughts are with all his family.”

Former Westlife singer Brian McFadden writes, “Thinking about robin gibb. My thoughts are with his family. Hope he fights thru or lives his last days peacefully.”
