Joan Rivers’ daughter Melissa has confirmed the veteran comedienne remains on life support, five days after she was admitted to hospital following a major health scare.
The legendary funnywoman has been under doctors’ care at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital since Thursday, when she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest during a routine throat operation at a nearby clinic.
The 81 year old was placed in a medically-induced coma and on Saturday, reports emerged suggesting her body was relying on machines to keep her alive.
The star’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, has now admitted the rumors are true, stating on Tuesday that “at this time”, her mother “does remain on life support”.
In the latest update on her condition she concluded, “I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”
The news comes shortly after network bosses at E! decided to axe filming on a special New York Fashion Week edition of the comedienne’s TV show Fashion Police in the Big Apple this week.
