Madonna has clarified comments she made about Barack Obama after branding the leader a “black Muslim” during a recent concert.
The Material Girl gave her backing to President Obama as he fights for a second term in the White House during her show in Washington, DC on Monday.
After comparing him to Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. in a video montage, the singer – who had ‘Obama’ written on her back – told the audience, “Y’all better vote for f**king Obama, OK? For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House.
“That’s some amazing s**t. It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man, godd**nit.”
However, following a backlash over her remarks, Madonna insists she was merely mocking some right-wing factions who believe the politician is a follower of Islam.
A statement from the star reads, “I was being ironic on stage. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim – though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. And what if he were?
“The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to. I don’t care what religion Obama is – nor should anyone else in America.”
