Pop superstar Mariah Carey has quit her judging role on American Idol after just one season.
The Hero hitmaker’s public relations handlers announced on Thursday that she is following fellow panelist Randy Jackson’s lead and departing the show.
Carey is now planning to stage a global tour on the back of her latest hit #Beautiful.
The singer re-tweeted a post from her publicists which read, “W/ (with the) global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) Mariah Carey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol.”
Earlier this week, the singer’s husband Nick Cannon played down ongoing rumors Carey was set to quit the show, saying, “I haven’t heard that and I sleep next to the woman.”
Recent reports suggest that former American Idol reject Jennifer Hudson is in talks to return to the show as a panelist for the upcoming 13th season.
