One Direction stars Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik thanked fans for their support during the band’s first concert since the pair was caught on camera allegedly smoking marijuana.
The What Makes You Beautiful hitmakers made headlines across the globe this week following the publication of a video showing Tomlinson and Malik puffing on what appears to be a joint in a car in Peru last month.
The footage sparked uproar among young fans and their parents, and several devotees admitted ripping up tickets to upcoming gigs.
The pop stars returned to the stage to play a gig in Sunderland, England on Wednesday, and both Malik and Tomlinson thanked the audience for their support during their first tour date since the scandal broke.
Tomlinson told the crowd, “I want to say a massive thank you to fans and you guys for putting us here tonight,” while Malik added, “I want to say a massive, massive thank you to each and every single one of you for supporting us from all our early shows to this very day. I want you to know how much that means.”
Reports suggest both bandmembers were less enthusiastic and lively than usual, with Malik looking withdrawn throughout the gig.
One Direction are due to perform in Manchester, England on Friday.
