Fans attending Liam Gallagher’s star-studded charity show for Japan are set for a rock ‘n’ roll first – Primal Scream are teaming up with Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock for the gig.
The former Oasis star’s new band Beady Eye will headline the gig at London’s Brixton O2 Academy next month, and Gallagher has also rounded up Paul Weller, Richard Ashcroft, The Coral and former Blur star Graham Coxon for the concert.

Primal Scream are preparing to play on the night as well – and they’re looking forward to a special collaboration.

The band tells Britain’s Daily Star, “We are humbled to play the Japan Disaster Benefit. As (bassist) Mani is unable to attend due to prior family commitments, we are pleased to announce we will be joined for one night only by Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock.”

Former The Jam frontman Weller is also happy to be playing at the show, which is raising cash for the relief fund for survivors of the devastating earthquake and tsunami earlier this month.

Speaking to Britain’s The Sun, he says, “I really wanted to do something to show solidarity and sympathy with the Japanese people. Japan is a place I’ve been to many times in the last 30 years.

“I’ve made many friends there and have been treated very well. They are a kind race. My heart goes out to them. The line-up is great for the show and it’s gonna be a brilliant night.”

More than 18,000 people are feared dead in the aftermath of the 9.0-magnitude tremor and subsequent tidal wave that hit Japan’s east coast.
