Queen Elizabeth II’s husband Prince Philip is sporting a small bandage on his hand after undergoing a minor procedure on Tuesday.
A representative for royal residence Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on Wednesday, after the Prince was photographed carrying out official duties in London with the dressing clearly visible, but the spokesperson stopped short of revealing the reason for the medical attention.
A statement released by officials reads: “The Duke of Edinburgh had a minor procedure carried out on his right hand. The procedure was performed at Buckingham Palace, and the Duke will be wearing a bandage for protection.”
The British royal has been in and out of hospital in recent years – he spent his 92nd birthday recovering from stomach surgery last summer and had to receive treatment in 2012 after suffering a bladder infection. He also had a stent inserted during heart surgery in 2011.
