Rick Springfield has called off a planned tour of Australia so he can make a movie with Hollywood legend Meryl Streep.
The Jessie’s Girl star was due to kick off a series of shows Down Under in October, marking his first major tour of the country since 1971, but he has now called off the trek due to his filming commitments.
Springfield says in a statement, “Sorry to all my Aussie fans. I was so looking forward to playing for you for the first time in 30 years. I promise to make it up to you next year. In the meantime, this movie is a great opportunity. It’s not every day that Meryl Streep and Jonathan Demme come calling.”
Streep plays a washed-up rock star in Ricki & the Flash, and Springfield will portray one of her bandmates. The film has been written by Juno’s Diablo Cody and will be directed by The Silence of the Lambs moviemaker Jonathan Demme.
