Actor Robert Redford has narrated a special video to be shown during the televised baseball matches on America’s Independence Day.
Redford, who played a baseball pitcher in The Natural, lends his voice to a two-minute clip that will run during breaks in two sporting fixtures aired on ESPN on Friday.
In the film, Redford reads extracts from an essay by MSNBC journalist Mike Barnicle about the special relationship between ball players and their catching gloves.
The clip, which was produced by Barnicle’s sons Colin and Nick, will be broadcast in America during an afternoon game between the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins and during an evening showdown between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Detroit Tigers.
