Comedian Russell Brand returned to the stage in London on Sunday night after scrapping a string of stand-up shows due to his mother’s ill health.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star announced in his YouTube.com series The Trews last week that his mom Barbara is battling breast cancer, and he decided to axe three performances on his Messiah Complex trek across England.
Messaging fans via Twitter.com, he wrote, “Sorry to eff you (sic) around with gigs. My mom ain’t well (sic). Tix (tickets) will be honored or refunded.”
The star decided to return to work on Sunday for his show at the O2 Brixton Academy in the U.K. capital.
Reaching out to gig-goers before the show, he tweeted: “Just so you know Messiah Complex is happening at Brixton Academy.”
Barbara previously battled uterine and breast cancer when Brand was a child.
