Desperate Housewives actor Shawn Pyfrom has thanked his fans for their messages of support after he admitted on Sunday that he is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict.
The actor felt compelled to open up about his addiction after learning about the shock death of Capote actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who passed away from an apparent drug overdose, aged 46.
Pyfrom wrote an open letter on his blog declaring he is an alcoholic and an addict, but insisted he has been sober for five months.
After making the revelations, he was inundated with supportive messages and he has now reached out to thank fans on his Instagram.com page.
He writes, “Thank you to everyone who sent their love and support today, after I posted my open letter. I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. But I didn’t write this letter just for me. I wanted for anyone out there, who may be struggling like I was, to know that there is strength in admitting your weaknesses.
“Hope, no matter how bleak things may seem. And support, no matter how alone you may feel. Crutches may help carry the weight of what sits upon the broken. But no one can heal until they test what may be mended – knowing what they can carry on their own… you are loved. Thank you for letting me share. And thank you for sharing your love with me.”
