Justin Timberlake knew his romance with Britney Spears was doomed – because the pop couple was too immature and naive to make it work.
The Social Network star met Spears when he joined the Mickey Mouse club during the 1990s and the two subsequently carried on a three year relationship before splitting in 2002.

And although the duo were the hottest couple in Hollywood at the time, Timberlake admits their romance wasn’t strong enough to withstand the spotlight.

He tells Vanity Fair, “We were two birds of the same feather – small-town kids, doing the same thing. But then you become adults, and the way you were as kids doesn’t make any sense.

“I just don’t think we were normal; there was nothing normal about our existence. We spent way too much time being the biggest thing for teenyboppers. (We were) little kids with big toys. You do the math – that’s not going to last.”

And the Cry Me a River singer admits he and his ex have lost touch: “(We haven’t spoken) in nine or 10 years.”
