Actor Tom Hanks is set to make his Broadway debut this spring in a play written by his late pal Nora Ephron.
The Cast Away star will portray tragic Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper columnist Mike McAlary in Lucky Guy at the Broadhurst Theater from 1 March.
Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe will direct, according to the Associated Press.
McAlary, who lost his battle with cancer in 1998, is revered for breaking several stories about police brutality in the Big Apple.
The project is a perfect fit for Hanks – the Oscar winner, who starred in Ephron’s films Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, was very close to the playwright, even speaking at her memorial service following her death in June.
