Veteran actress Valerie Harper has clarified a recent article in which she was reported as stating she is “cancer-free”, insisting she was misquoted about the current state of her health.
In early 2013, the Mary Tyler Moore Show star revealed she had been diagnosed with rare brain condition leptomeningeal carcinomatosis and had only three to six months to live.
And, after rounds of successful chemotherapy treatments, the 74 year old reportedly told Closer magazine that she is “absolutely cancer-free”.
But hours after the article first hit the Internet on Wednesday, Harper has come forward to claim the reporter went too far, adding that though she has new high hopes about her health, she is not in the clear.
A statement from Harper reads: “In response to a recent erroneous quote concerning my health, I am not ‘absolutely cancer-free’. I wish I were. Right now what I am is cautiously optimistic about my present condition and I have hope for the future.”
