Actress Allison Williams endured a travel nightmare earlier this week after her flight from France to New York was diverted to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania due to a severe snowstorm.
The Girls star was returning from Paris Fashion Week when she found herself in the middle of the international travel chaos on Tuesday (21Jan14) as America’s East Coast was hit with heavy snow and freezing temperatures, and she reveals she ended up spending more than 14 hours on a flight which should have lasted less than nine.
Explaining the situation during an appearance on America’s Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday night, she said, “It was touch and go (whether she would get to New York), literally. I was coming from Paris… and then it was supposed to be an eight-and-a-half hour flight, which is easy, no big deal, watch a couple of movies. And then we spent about an hour circling JFK (John F. Kennedy Airport in New York) and then they said, ‘We’re gonna go to Pittsburgh’, because of the storm…”
And just when she though the trip home couldn’t get any worse, passengers on her flight were banned from disembarking the plane as the pilot waited for take-off and a return to New York, while a mechanical problem with the aircraft was fixed.
Williams, who is terrified of flying, added, “We spent about two hours (on the runway) in Pittsburgh… Finally they get back on the loudspeaker and said, ‘There’s a mechanical issue, we’re gonna fix that, don’t worry, we’re gonna de-ice the plane and then we’re gonna go back to JFK…’ So we were held hostage on the plane… Then finally we took off (and landed safely in New York).”
Rocker Pete Wentz, actress Bella Thorne and director Wes Craven were also caught up in the travel chaos on Tuesday and early Wednesday as they tried to leave the East Coast.
