Legendary costumer Bob Mackie will design outfits for new musical The Cher Show.
The designer is behind some of Cher’s most iconic looks, including the daring sheer and beaded gown she wore when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1988.
But perhaps even more iconic was the two-piece she donned to the Oscars the year before, which had most of her torso on display and was topped off with a dramatic plumed headdress.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Bob confirmed the news by sharing three sketches of costumes, including a replica of Cher’s 1988 look.
The Cher Show focuses on the 71-year-old’s life and career, with her music acting as the show’s soundtrack.
It opens in Chicago at the Oriental Theater for previews on 12 June 2019, before heading to a Broadway residency at the Neil Simon Theater in Manhattan in the fall.
“My life as a musical on Broadway. It seems crazy, exciting and bizarre – but that’s probably how my life seems to most people,” Cher previously said in a statement.
