Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston celebrated a double win on Thursday as his charity drive smashed its target goal on the same day he received an Emmy nomination for his performance in the hit TV drama.
The actor, who plays chemistry teacher-turned-drug lord Walter White in the show, received an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nod when the Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced, but he was equally thrilled to discover that his fundraising initiative had passed its $250,000 goal by $25,000.
Cranston set up a competition for two fans to win a ride with him, co-star Aaron Paul and show creator Vince Gilligan in an RV vehicle to attend the season premiere of Breaking Bad in Los Angeles next Wednesday to raise funds for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The competition is due to close on Friday , but Cranston was stunned to discover that fans’ generosity had already smashed the target, raising $275,000.
Taking to his account on Thursday he wrote, “What a day! Emmy nom (sic) and I just heard our Breaking Bad contest for charity has pulled in $275,000! Keep it going… Wow.”
