Veteran comedienne Carol Burnett has paid tribute to legendary TV producer Alfred ‘Al’ Masini, who died on Monday.
The man behind TV hits including Solid Gold, Star Search, Entertainment Tonight and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 80 after a battle with melanoma.

Masini was born and raised in New Jersey and served as an Air Force officer during the Korean War before moving into broadcasting and creating several successful TV series.

Funnywoman Burnett, a longtime friend, has spoken out about the tragic news, saying: “I’m very sorry to hear of his death. He was a talented producer and a fine man.”

Masini is survived by his wife, Charlyn, and a sister.
