The daughter of TV and radio star Casey Kasem was granted additional powers over her ailing father on Tuesday, just days after she filed a missing persons report amid fears he had been “kidnapped” by his wife.
The 82-year-old broadcasting legend, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, was reported missing by his daughter Kerri last week, but was found in Washington state just hours after she contacted police.
Kasem is at the centre of a family battle over his care amid a reported feud between his wife Jean and his adult children. Kerri has been seeking a temporary conservatorship and was appointed her father’s official caretaker last Monday.
She was given another boost on Tuesday when a Los Angeles Superior Court Judge ordered Jean to comply with court orders to allow Kerri to see her father, according to
The order also allows doctors to check on him, while Jean was forced to surrender her husband’s passport to Kerri.
A statement from the Kasem family reads: “We are happy with the decision the court made today. Now Kerri and family can focus on bringing their father back home, where he can get the proper care and support that he needs.”
