The daughter of late broadcaster and voice actor Casey Kasem has been granted permission to keep her father’s body in a Washington morgue after requesting an autopsy to determine his exact cause of death.
The TV and radio legend passed away on 15 June at the age of 82, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
His final days were marred by a bitter family feud over his medical care, and his daughter Kerri attempted to end the rift with her stepmother, Kasem’s widow Jean, following his death by allowing his body to be released into her care.
However, earlier this week, Kerri’s representative revealed her dad’s remains had yet to be claimed, a month after his passing, and on Wednesday her lawyer filed a request seeking an autopsy.
She also asked for a temporary restraining order against Jean to prevent her from removing the body and having it cremated before the coroner’s examination.
The restraining order application was approved by Pierce County Superior Court Judge Ronald Culpepper, and a hearing for the autopsy request was set for 25 July.
