Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has reportedly checked into a treatment centre in an effort to seek more help in her battle with bipolar disorder.
News of the Oscar winner’s mental health issues emerged in 2011 when she entered a medical facility in Connecticut to combat a serious bout of depression.
She went public about dealing with the mental illness last year, but told a prying reporter she was tired of talking about the issue during a breakfast show interview in December.
When asked for an update on Good Morning America, she snapped back, “You know what? I’m sick of talking about it because I never wanted to be the poster child for this. I never wanted this to come out publicly. It came out.
“I dealt with it in the best way I could and that was just saying that, ‘Look, hey, I’m bipolar’. Everyone has things going on and we’re doing the best we can. We can’t jump from the rooftops shouting about, ‘I have this, look at me, victim’ – no. We all have issues in life and I’m really happy I have great friends, great support and that’s all I can do.”
Now reports the 43 year old checked into the treatment centre on Monday and is expected to complete a 30-day program.
Sources close to the actress tell the website the latest stint in treatment is for “maintenance”, insisting there has been no drama leading to her decision to seek more help.
The actress’ publicists had not responded to WENN’s request for a comment by press time.
