Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has fueled speculation surrounding the departure of Joey Jordison by branding the news “difficult” and suggesting he has been forbidden from talking publicly about his former bandmate.
Fans of the heavy metal group were stunned when the rockers recently announced Jordison had quit after 18 years, and a statement released by the band failed to specify any reasons for his departure, leaving many wondering what went on.
Singer Taylor has now spoken out about Jordison’s exit for the first time, but he hinted fans are in for a shock.
He tells America’s Minnesota radio station 93X Rocks!, “I can’t really talk about it right now. It’s still so fresh and there’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes that people don’t know about, so legally and respectfully, I can’t say a lot about it… We’re trying to protect him, trying to protect us… It’s difficult. But if people can bear with us we’ll cross that bridge when we can…
“I know the fans are chomping at the bit (sic), it’s just we can’t really say anything right now. It sucks for them and it sucks for us because we have always really prided ourselves in being able to come out and (be) honest with everybody, but there’s really nothing we can say right now.”
Taylor goes on to insist Jordison’s exit will not delay plans to release a new album next year, adding, “I’ve been writing some stuff… The guys are together right now jamming and putting stuff together. It’s sounding really, really good. In light of (the recent) news I know it’s weird – but if anything positive can come out of this, it’s just that I hope the fans know that we’re really working towards putting out an album next year.”
