Dame Helen Mirren was lined-up to portray Queen Elizabeth II onscreen once again as part of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games if the monarch refused to take part.
The British royal was filmed leaving London’s Buckingham Palace with Daniel Craig in character as James Bond and climbing into a helicopter to make her way to the Olympic Stadium, where she appeared to parachute down to the ground, but veteran actress Mirren, who portrayed the British monarch in 2006 film The Queen, was also eyed for the role.
Head of Ceremonies Martin Green tells Britain’s The People newspaper, “There were conversations about where we would take it if The Queen said no. We did talk about Helen at one point – but we didn’t have to go to any other plan.”
