Dame Judi Dench has been honoured with Japan’s most prestigious arts accolade for her longstanding acting career.
The Shakespeare in Love star accepted Japan Art Association’s Praemium Imperiale, the country’s equivalent of the Nobel prize, at a ceremony in London on Monday.

The 76 year old was also given $184,000 in prize money, which she plans to give to charity.

She told reporters at the event, “I’m a patron of over 200 charities, so it’s going to be thin butter, isn’t it? I’m not going to buy a car or anything. I’ve got one of those. I don’t wear fur coats. A few diamonds? I don’t want that.”
