Day two of the 2012 Lollapalooza festival was abruptly halted on Saturday after a powerful storm struck Chicago, Illinois.
Alabama Shakes and The Temper Trap were among the acts whose sets were cancelled when the lakefront site at Grant Park was evacuated due to dangerous weather conditions.
Tens of thousands of fans were forced to take shelter in parking garages until organisers gave the all-clear three hours later when the thunderstorm had passed.
A statement posted on the Lollapalooza website reads, “(Organisers) made the decision to evacuate Grant Park in response to warnings from the National Weather Service… In all, more than 60,000 festival-goers and nearly 3,000 staff, artists and vendors were safely evacuated in 38 minutes.
“We want to thank the tens of thousands of festival-goers, staff and artists who calmly and safely exited.”
