Moviemaker Sam Mendes signed on to direct new Bond film Skyfall after the franchise’s star Daniel Craig personally asked him to helm the project.
The American Beauty director announced in 2010 that he had agreed to direct the 23rd 007 movie, but now it has emerged it was Craig’s idea to offer the job to Mendes after they met at a party.
Craig tells Esquire magazine, “It’s a very showbizzy story. I was at Hugh Jackman’s house in New York. It was a soiree – we were in a play together – and Sam was there. I’d had a few too many drinks and I went, ‘How do you fancy directing a Bond?’ And he kind of went, ‘Yeah!’ And it snowballed from there.”
