Daniel Radcliffe rushed to help a man who was wounded by a knife as his bag was stolen by thieves on Friday evening.
The Harry Potter actor was in the Chelsea neighborhood of London when two men riding a moped targeted a tourist, stole his Louis Vuitton bag and slashed him in the face with a knife before riding off, and Daniel was among those who rushed to help.
David Videcette, a former police officer, told London’s Evening Standard how he returned to the scene after shunting the thieves’ moped with his car to discover there was a famous face among the crowd.
“It was a bit of the surreal moment, I said, ‘You’re Daniel Radcliffe’ and the 27-year-old replied, ‘I am,'” he said. “He was a really nice bloke, a lot of stars wouldn’t have stopped to help… The victim was very, very shaken up.”
A spokeswoman for the actor confirmed he was present to the publication would not elaborate.
A Metropolitan Police representative also confirmed the crime, saying, “The victim – a man aged in his 50s – was walking in the road when two people riding a moped snatched his bag before riding off. The victim suffered a cut to the face during the incident. Officers from Kensington and Chelsea investigate. No arrests were made and enquiries continue.”
Daniel isn’t the first celebrity to be connected to moped-related crimes in London. Tom Hardy reportedly chased down a thief who stole a moped and performed a citizen’s arrest in Richmond, south-west London, in April.
According to witness Arun Pullen, Tom dashed after the culprit, who had crashed the scooter into a car, and chase him through gardens and a building site before catching up with him and holding him in a bus stop until police arrived.
“It was mental – like he’d switched to superhero mode in an action movie,” Arun told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “He went off like a shot in pursuit and looked furious.”
