Sir Elton John paid a musical tribute to producer Phil Ramone on Saturday by dedicating his song Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me to his late pal during a concert in Mississippi.
The 79-year-old Grammy-winning producer died earlier on Saturday, weeks after suffering an aortic aneurysm, and Elton took a moment to remember Ramone at his gig in Biloxi.
He told the audience, “Sadly, one of the great producers of the record industry died today. His name was Phil Ramone. You may not know him, but he produced all the great, great Billy Joel records, Ray Charles, he worked on my musical AIDA, and he’s a legend, and in fact it was his studio that I recorded (live album) 11-17-70 way back in 1970.
“Phil, you’re a lovely, kind, brilliant man. This song is for you.”
