Rapper Eve has clarified comments she made appearing to question whether Britney Spears actually sang on her will.i.am collaboration Scream & Shout, insisting critics have got it all wrong.
The Let Me Blow Your Mind hitmaker has come under fire from Spears’ fans amid claims she suggested the pop superstar’s voice doesn’t actually feature on the hit single.
During an appearance on U.S. talk show Watch What Happens Live this week, Eve was asked what she thought of Spears’ British accent on the track, to which she replied, “I heard that might not be Britney… That’s what I heard. I don’t know.”
Her response has since been interpreted as an attack on the Toxic star’s talents, even prompting Spears’ representative Jeff Raymond to hit back, telling TMZ.com, “It’s absolute BS (bulls**t). Britney sang the song. will.i.am wanted her for this song and she sang on it.”
However, Eve has now taken to Twitter.com to insist she was not calling out Spears for her singing – the rapper was only wondering if the line voiced by a female in a U.K. accent was her.
In a post on Thursday, she writes, “Come on ya’ll (sic) My comment was not about Britney Spears NOT singing the song- clearly it’s her. It was about the British accent-pay attention”.
