Catherine Zeta-Jones sparked fears for Michael Douglas’ health on Thursday after she cut short a trip to her native Wales to fly back to New York to be with her sick husband.

The Chicago actress was in the U.K. to launch the Ryder Cup golf tournament, but Douglas stayed in America to continue his treatment for throat cancer.

Zeta-Jones made an emotional speech at Wednesday’s Welcome To Wales gala concert, revealing her husband was originally meant to join her, saying, “Usually I would be watching with him. He would be representing the American team and I would be wholeheartedly representing the European team, but not this year, maybe next time.”

The star had planned to stay for the duration of the three-day event, but she cut her trip short and flew home early to be by her husband’s side, reports Britain’s Daily Mail.

Zeta-Jones further fuelled concerns for the Wall Street star after reportedly turning down a role in new movie My Week With Marilyn to spend more time with Douglas.
