Gravity Scores Second Week At The Top Of U.S. Box Office

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney’s Gravity has scored a second week on top of the U.S. box office after beating out Tom Hanks’ new movie Captain Phillips.
The three Oscar winners went head to head at cinemas this weekend and the space drama took the lead with an impressive $44.3 million second-weektake – seven days after breaking October box office records by debuting with $55.8 million.
Hanks’ true-life drama, which is based on the 2009 hijacking of a cargo ship by Somali pirates, comes in second with $26 million.
Animated sequel Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills and Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake’s new thriller Runner Runner round out the new top five.
