Rapper Gucci Mane has been denied bail after he surrendered to authorities in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday.
A warrant was issued for the hip-hop star’s arrest last week amid allegations he hit a soldier over the head with a bottle at a nightclub in the city on 16 March. The alleged victim, who has only been identified as James, required 10 stitches.
The rapper, real name Radric Davis, turned himself in on Wednesday and was held in custody at Fulton County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon.
He later appeared in court and a judge denied Gucci Mane bail. The star will remain behind bars until his next hearing on 10 April.
Speaking outside the courtroom, the rapper’s lawyer Drew Findling told reporters, “Mr. Davis has a history, we’re not going to skirt that issue. That history made it difficult for him to get bond today.”
Davis has endured several run-ins with the law over the years and served time in jail in 2011 following his conviction on charges of battery, reckless conduct and disorderly conduct for pushing a woman out of a moving car.
