Pioneering guitarist Bert Weedon, who was credited as a major influence on a generation of rockers including John Lennon, Eric Clapton, and Brian May, has died at the age of 91.
Weedon was the first British guitarist to have a hit on the U.K. singles chart with Guitar Boogie Shuffle in 1959, and penned his Play in a Day guide, which many stars of the ’60s relied on to master the instrument.

The musician, who was honored with an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal in 2001, died at his home in Buckinghamshire, England on Friday after a long illness.
