British rockers Happy Mondays have scrapped their Australian tour due to drummer Gary Whelan’s ill health.
The band was slated to start concerts in Brisbane, Australia last month, but pushed them back until 5 June.
However, they have now decided to scrap the trek in its entirety due to Whelan’s mystery illness.
A statement from the Aussie tour’s promoters at Kill Rock Star Big Dog Entertainment reads, “It is with regret that KRBD Entertainment announces that the Australian tour for Happy Mondays, which was previously rescheduled for Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, has now been cancelled by the band’s management citing medical issues with drummer Gary Whelan.
“While details remain hazy, a mutually agreeable solution could not be found to rescue the tour. Happy Mondays management officially cancelled the tour over the weekend.”
Fans will be reimbursed for their tickets. The concerts would have marked the first time the band’s original line-up had toured Australia.
