Actor Neil Patrick Harris has played down reports he’s preparing to wed his fiance now same-sex marriage has been legalised in New York, insisting the couple has “no plans” to exchange vows.
The How I Met Your Mother star revealed his engagement to his boyfriend of five years, David Burtka, last month, as gay campaigners celebrated the passing of the new legislation in the Big Apple.

But, during an appearance on talk show Watch What Happens Live on Monday, Harris admitted they are happy to keep the status of their relationship as it is, instead of taking advantage of the new ruling, which came into practise on Sunday.

Asked whether the couple was planning its nuptials, Harris replied, “We have no plans to. We’ve had rings on our right hands for five years. We proposed to each other separately at different times ages ago.

“We were gonna get married in California and then Prop 8 (legislation banning same-sex marriage) happened. We have contemplated it here, but the problem is if you say, ‘Yes, we’re planning a wedding’ then it becomes a big, giant thing. We’re certainly not planning a wedding, but we think it’s amazing that 800 and some odd people got married yesterday.”
