Actor Hugh Jackman has dropped out of Madeleine Stowe’s directorial debut Unbound Captives due to scheduling conflicts.
The X-Men star signed on to saddle up in the western last year, but his schedule will no longer permit him to take part in the film.
The movie had been delayed for three years because of financing issues, but now Stowe is hoping to shoot the movie in the near future.
She says, “The film is now fully funded but Hugh’s schedule and my schedule did not align… Unfortunately Hugh and I had to push this away and so I’m having to find another actor. I so wanted to work with Hugh because he’s a beautiful guy. That’s where we’re at – we’re funded but we have to get the right leading man.”
It was tough for Jackman to walk away from the project – just last year he told Cowboys & Indians magazine he couldn’t wait to play an all-American cowboy, and neither could his teenage son.
Jackman said, “He knows all about this project and keeps asking me, ‘When are we going to go and live with the American Indians?’ He knows all the nuances – who the tribes are and where they lived. It’s fascinating to me.”
Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson have been linked to the movie about a frontiersman who saves a woman captured by the Comanche in the 1850s.
