Jason Statham’s thoughts are with a stuntman pal, who was injured on the set of Fast & Furious 9, as he promotes spin-off Hobbs And Shaw in the U.K.
Joe Watts was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with a serious head injury on Monday and he is reportedly fighting for his life after a fall on the set in Hertfordshire, England.
Speaking at the premiere of Hobbs & Shaw in London, Jason told reporters that Watts is one of his “best mates” in the movie industry, adding, “It’s always concerning when someone gets hurt… It’s absolutely awful news, and we just wish him the best.
“The stuntmen and women are the unsung heroes. They are the ones that put themselves in harm’s way to make other people look good. It’s a real selfless act.”
Meanwhile, Health and Safety Executive officials are investigating the incident that led to Watts’ injury.
His fiancee, Tilly Powell, who is also a stunt performer, has told friends Joe is in an induced coma, but she has assured followers on social media that he is “stable and being monitored closely”.
“I love him so much,” she wrote. “He has all his friends and family by his side to get him through this.”
