Sandra Bullock’s estranged husband Jesse James knew his cheating ways would be exposed and reveals he secretly wanted to get caught.
Oscar winner Bullock walked out on the reality TV star in March after news of his infidelities hit the headlines and now James has sat down for his first post-split TV interview with newswoman Vicki Mabrey.
In the candid chat, which will air on U.S. news show Nightline on Tuesday, James insists he never meant to hurt his wife, and knew he was doing wrong when he was cheating on her – but couldn’t help himself.
He says, “When I was doing it, you know, one, I knew it was horrible, it made me feel horrible. And two, I knew I would get caught eventually, and I think I wanted to get caught. I know for a fact now what it was, you know. I mean, it was me trying to self-sabotage my life.
“I’ve spent my whole life with the kids and with her trying to… protect her from everything, but the most hurt she’s ever been caused is by the person that wanted to protect her. It’s terrible, and she’s going to be hurt for a long time.
“It’s hard for me to talk about, a little bit, because I still really love her and care about her.”
The 41 year old checked into a rehab facility to seek help for “personal issues” in late March. He has also publicly apologised to Bullock, his wife of nearly five years, and his three kids for his actions.
James’ infidelities hit the headlines in March after porn star and tattoo model Michelle McGee went public with the couple’s affair, which partly took place while Bullock was on location, shooting The Blind Side.
