Classical star Katherine Jenkins was left heartbroken after a $40,000 brooch loaned to her was stolen on Saturday ) – just hours before she was due to wear it onstage.
The Welsh singer agreed to wear the black diamond and ruby poppy, which commemorates Britain’s soldiers, for her performance at the British Legion Festival in London’s Royal Albert Hall.

But Jenkins was forced to go onstage without the pricey pin after it was snatched from a female assistant transporting it to the concert venue.

The blonde beauty admits she was shocked to hear about the theft, and hopes the designers will recreate another brooch.

Speaking on U.K. TV show Something For The Weekend, she says, “I’d been asked if I would wear it because they were donating the proceeds to the British Legion so I was looking forward to wearing it. Then a gentleman came to my room just before I was supposed to go on and said, ‘It’s literally been stolen out of the lady’s bag that’s been in charge of it all day.’ It’s such a shame. But I hope they can make another one so that they can still keep the proceeds for the charity.”

Bosses at the Royal British Legion immediately informed police and have appealed for the thief to return the jewelry.

A spokesperson says, “It all happened very quickly. The thief didn’t take anything apart from the brooch which makes us think that she may have been targeted… We are hoping that the thief will realize that something valuable has been taken away from the nation, something that was supposed to help injured servicemen.”
