Jennifer Nettles made a powerful statement on the red carpet at the CMA Awards on Wednesday evening (13Nov19) by writing a female empowerment message in the lining of her dress.
The Sugarland singer posed outside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, wearing a white trouser suit and shirt, which she opened out like a cape.
On it, she had written: “Play our f*#!!in records, please and thank you”, while the back featured an image of a woman with a Venus symbol and read “EQUAL PLAY”.
The stance was a reaction to a new country movement to get females on more radio shows and at more music festivals.
The ceremony opened on another empowering note, as co-hosts Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton hit the stage to kick start a tribute to the women of country.
