Singer Jack Johnson is wading in to the BP oil spill disaster – by pledging $70,000 to aid recovery efforts in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Upside Down hitmaker is donating $30,000 through his non-profit organisation, the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, and another $40,000 will be raised by matching grants.

And he’s asking fans to give generously when they attend shows on his upcoming To The Sea tour, which will stop in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Johnson is distributing the funds to a number of charities, including the Gulf Restoration Network, Louisiana Bucket Brigade, Ocean Conservancy, National Wildlife Foundation and Surfrider Foundation.
