Angelina Jolie invited her kids to the set of her directorial debut to cheer up the film’s cast, because the scenes they were shooting were so depressing.
The Hollywood star stepped behind the camera to direct In The Land Of Blood And Honey, about a forbidden romance between a Bosnian woman and a Serbian soldier during the Bosnian War.

Jolie admits there was often a tense atmosphere on set due to the movie’s dark subject matter, so she brought her six kids along to lighten the mood.

She tells Britain’s The Sun, “They went to school in Hungary and came to visit the set there after school… They liked to play with the fake snow. It was so dark and hard that any time you called ‘cut’, or we had a break, everybody was playing together.

“The cast would come out and play soccer with my kids. We would all laugh and try anything that brought levity and love because it was so dark. Off the set, I was happily with my kids. I was probably smothering them with love because of the nature of the subject matter.

“(But) there were many days when they could never really come because there were scenes that were not appropriate for children.”
