Pop star Justin Bieber told police he had been smoking marijuana and downing booze when he was arrested on Thursday.
The teenager was stopped by police after he was spotted allegedly taking part in a drag race in Miami Beach, Florida in the early hours of the morning, and he subsequently failed a field sobriety test at the scene.
He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and resisting arrest without violence, and it has now emerged Bieber admitted to police officers that he had been smoking weed and drinking beer during the evening.
He had also been taking an unnamed prescription medication, and was driving on a ‘non-valid’ licence, according to local cops.
A police spokesman says, “I don’t have the levels. It’s a combination, when you have narcotics – marijuana and alcohol – it’s the impairment – being impaired while you’re driving.”
The spokesman also revealed Bieber had been “belligerent” during the arrest and had used “choice words” when quizzed by officers.
He adds, “At first he was a little belligerent, questioning, using some choice words – questioning why he was being stopped and, you know, why the officer was even questioning him… He did acknowledge that he did take a prescription medication and that he had been smoking marijuana and that he had consumed a beer.”
Bieber was still in custody in Miami Beach as WENN went to press.
