Kanye West is firing back at a photographer suing him over an alleged airport scuffle, insisting he only grappled with the snapper because he was concerned for his own safety.
The rapper is facing legal action from videographer Daniel Ramos, who has accused West of wrestling him to the ground and trying to grab his camera at Los Angeles International Airport in July.
West has been charged with battery and attempted grand theft over the incident, but in new legal documents he maintains he acted in self-defense.
In papers filed by his lawyer and obtained by TMZ.com, West insists “his safety was in immediate danger” when Ramos approached him as he was leaving the terminal.
Their bust-up was caught on tape, but the Stronger hitmaker claims he only did what was “necessary for his self-defense and safety and was justified in doing those acts”.
West faces a maximum of one year behind bars if convicted of the criminal charges, reports People.com.
