Kate Hudson served as a pillar of support for Lea Michele following the tragic death of her boyfriend, Cory Monteith, inviting the Glee star to stay at her home while paparazzi swarmed the young actress’ house.
The pair bonded on the set of the Golden Globe-winning series when Hudson joined the show as the dance teacher to Michele’s character last year.
Since then, they have become close friends, with Hudson even providing a place of solace for Michele following Monteith’s drug and alcohol overdose in July.
In an interview with Elle magazine, Michele opens up about the devastating time, revealing that Hudson was one of the first people she called after learning of Monteith’s death.
Michele admits, “I called her and said, ‘I don’t know where I’m going to go because my house is swarmed with reporters.’ She was like, ‘Oh, you’re going to stay at my house.’ Like it was nothing.
“She let my family stay there, and any of my friends. She made sure that in the refrigerator were my favorite juices. I’ll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me.”
And now Michele, who returned to the very set she met her beau on just weeks after his death, is determined to stay strong not only for herself, but in Monteith’s honor.
She says, “Now that I’m in this position, you can choose to rise, which is what I’m going to try to do. It’s very hard and you have to be very strong to come out of this alive, but I think by doing the best for myself, by showing that you don’t have to lose yourself, maybe someone else will feel some sort of strength or comfort.
“I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people. I don’t know if I will. I don’t know how.”
