Actress Lauren Ridloff is slated to become Marvel’s first deaf superhero after landing a role in the star-studded Eternals.
The hearing-impaired The Walking Dead star was unveiled as a member of the ensemble cast for the upcoming blockbuster at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, and now it appears she’ll portray Makkari in the comic book adaptation, opposite Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Salma Hayek.
Asked what it means to be a part of the coveted Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lauren signed, “I have a son and he asked me, after he read Greek mythology…, ‘What does honor mean?’ This. This is what honor means. I’m so honored to be here.”
While Ridloff will become the first deaf actor in a Marvel movie, Eternals director Chloe Zhao will also break new ground for the company by becoming the first Asian woman to helm a Marvel release.
